Internet Explorer / Javascript problem ?

Postby javad on Tue Apr 21, 2009 2:47 pm

I hope my post in this forum is ok ...

I am having problems with my PC or, I should say, Internet Explorer. I believe it is Javascript related. The problem, as I experience it most, is buttons that don’t function correctly. I place the cursor over the button and will see a message in the status bar relating to javascript.

I do the same action on the same PC seconds later within Firefox, and everything appears the same, except the button functions as I expect.

For example, one of the ebay help pages I have visited a lot lately has a “Email Us” button on it. I swear it worked at one point ... weeks ago. Now, it does nothing. I see “javascript:void(0);” in the status bar.

Or on the CNN home page, there is a “Quick vote” polling feature. Many times (though not all the time) when I click on that I am taken to a blank screen. I’ve never seen this happen with Firefox. I have noticed a few times that it will repeatedly not work within Internet Explorer. I do it once within Firefox and then right afterwards it begins working within Internet Explorer.

Though I understand Javascript is not the same as Java, I am an ignorant moron, so I went to a site ...

http://www.javatester.org/version.html

and it tells me what version of Java I have installed (now the latest), and that all is well. Not sure if that would have any bearing at all on my problem or not.

I do not think it is firewall related. I tried totally disabling that. I am running XP Pro, with Mcafee VirusScan version 7.

I've tried changing all sorts of settings, and verified that the settings (within Internet Explorer) match those of another PC where I am able to use these same buttons.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
