I'm trying to make the switch from Freehand to Illustrator. The selection tools in Illustrator require that you click EXACTLY on the anchor point or handle or line- Is there any way to adjust this tolerance? I'm getting really frustrated because I keep clicking just a pixel or two off.
I've been searching all over the place and can't find any way of doing this. In Freehand it's called setting the 'pick distance'.

It sounds like you need to go into the illustrator preferences, under general, and see if 'object selection by path only' is checked. If it is, uncheck it.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned- I'm using Illustrator 10, and that option isn't available to me.
I've had some luck decreasing my screen resolution, but it still seems as though there should be an option to do what I want.
We should be upgrading to CS3 this summe, so maybe that will help, too.
