Is there "trim" an option in AI?

Is there "trim" an option in AI?

Postby error on Tue Apr 17, 2007 2:36 pm

Because I work in AI instead in Corel, I want to do the same thing as Corel's Back Minus front (Front Minus Back) option.

What it does, it practicly trims objects.
Back minus front — removes the front object from the back one
Front minus back — removes the back object from the front one

One more thing, why cant i put thiner borders than 1pt on objects? There are smaller sizes in the drop-down menu but I can't apply them.

Thanks for the help.

The pathfinder palette is where all of the tools to subtract/merge/crop objects from each other. Play around with all of them until you find the one that does exactly what you want to do.

As far as making a line smaller than 1 pt - this is a quirk that happens in illustrator sometimes. If you have a 1 pt line selected, change it to 20 pt, or some other large number. Then you should be able to change it to .25 or whatever you wanted. For some reason Illustrator does this on occasion. I have always gotten around it by making the point size much larger, then to the desired smaller point I want.

Thanks.

Pathfinder was the tool I was searching for.

Second problem was not solved by your technique. But, I succeeded by entering the size via keyboard!

Regards.
