Battery- Basically you got it, but I wanted to post what I did just to show a little bit of a different way to get the same result.
Beforehand, I made a 100X100 image and duplicated the layer 2x to give me 3 layers. I found a brush and filled the canvas with white stars on transparent background. I repeated on each canvas. Then, I made patterns out of all 3 of them. Note: I had to make sure the pics were RGB and not Indexed. RGB will make a transparent pattern, and Indexed won't...I don't understand it, I just went with it.
So now, I took a picture of asshole, placed it under Calvin, merged the layers, then did a Selection>Modify>Expand for 3 pixels and filled w/white to give the stroke. I did a Selection>Modify>Expand now for 5 pixels. I created a new layer and put behind Calvin. I selected that layer and filled w/black, and it filled everything inside the "5px Expand". Now, I duplicated that layer 2x to give me 3 total. I changed the black to whatever I wanted....a grey/silver gradient, and then did a Pattern Overlay. I repeated for each layer, and saved as 3 different .png files...each one showing a different pattern overlay. I stuck them in Easy Gif Animator, because I can't figure out how to make a .gif in ImageReady, and there you have it.
About ImageReady: I can import the layers from Photoshop, add the time or delay for each animation cell, but I can't figure out how to save as a .gif. I only know how to Export Layers as Files, or Animation Frames as Files. Help
