lost dialog boxes due to dual monitors

Postby yorick on Tue Jun 19, 2007 8:35 am

Hi, I used to have an extended desktop with two monitors, but now only have one and I've lost all the dialog boxes (eg layer properties, new document) because they were positioned on the second monitor. I've reinstalled photoshop to no success. There doesn't seem to be much in the registry either. Windows display settings have all been returned to single-monitor mode.

Does anyone have any idea how I can reset the position of these boxes?

Are you sure that they are even on? Have you checked "windows" on the file tray?

Go to Window > Workspace > Reset Palette Locations

They should pop to the far right side.

Good call Isick. Just re-installing over an existing install wont clear out the prefs file.

Resetting palettes didn't help, had already tried that.
It's popup dialogue boxes (eg, File>New, or layer Blending Options) that aren't always part of the workspace.

Also, I did uninstall Photoshop and delete any leftover files before reinstalling, so I'm not sure where the relevant preference file is lurking.

CTRL+SHIFT+ALT when PS splash screen shows. You will get a dialoge to reset preferences, say yes.
I think it is stored in the (in windows) C:\Documents and Settings\"your user name"\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Prefs.psp directory. Assuming you are using cs2...

Using PS7, so the ctrl-alt-shift thing didn't work, but deleting the preferences file fixed everything. Thanks for your help!
