Need layer mask help please!!!

Postby klaurelw on Fri May 25, 2007 5:11 am

I have a layer with an image and a layer mask. I want to make a new layer with a different image, but apply that same layer mask from the original image. How do I copy or duplicate the layer mask from the 1st layer to the 2nd? I am not very experienced with layers - any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

Alt-Click (Option-click for Mac) on the layer mask, and drag it up to the new layer.

Thank you for your reply. I tried that and it's not working.... (I'm using Photoshop CS on a Mac). Any ideas?

i always just CTRL+CLICK on the mask that i want to copy, which makes a selection out of it. I then select the layer that i want the mask applied to, and click the create mask icon in the layers pallette.

Has worked for me in every version since 6.0

That's a good way of doing it. I always duplicated the whole layer, dragged the mask then deleted the new unmasked layer. . . but yours works better.
