New Desktop

Postby Isick on Mon Apr 07, 2008 5:40 pm

I guess it has been some time since I posted any of my work so here it goes. I use Photoshop primarily for texturing for 3D models so the whole artsy side of it is slightly beyond me. However, recently I was working on a graphic design project and needed to get my creative juices flowing. I was in need of a new desktop background anyway so I opened up Photoshop and stared playing around. All I knew was I wanted it to have a black background since I read somewhere that black background backgrounds use less energy than white screens (kind of like one little step to help the environment). Anyway, that was my one criteria and here is what popped out:

I think it looks pretty cool, but to each their own right.

Nice... Looks 'splashy'....

It seems a bit unfinnished.. Like somethings missing?... Can't tell what, but I geuss there could come more out of it,
...

Anyway, great way to help the environment... ^^ Like it..

As a pic I like it - would hate having it on my desktop tho...

Don't you find that great big white blob a little distracting when you're trying to locate an icon? It's just keeps grabbing my eye - reckon it would be hard to focus on anything else. ;)

Talking about finding an Icon ^^

I recently pimped my desktop too...

I began struggling with .reg files a few years ago, and now I'm capable of doing powerfull things with reg files... So I addapted a way to generate nameless desktop icons... When this worked, I came with the idea of this kind of desktop:

As you can see, it's the periodic table... Some elements are in the right place, others are replaced by program or document shortcuts.... The icon's nicely blend in the background (because I made it that way ^^ ) ....
They are 48 x 48 Ico's... And the match with the underlaying desktop....

Anyhow: nice way to make outsiders freak when they have to work on my computer ^^... I like the concept, but it's too painfull for my eyes all those tiny details... Therefore I guess I'm gona addapt the contrast a bit, so the desktop gets much softer for the eye..

Far out. That's pretty hard core... How much time do you have? ;) J/K

I like the concept - use something similar myself actually:

Just like to keep things organised.- even if my desktop is the only part of my life that's under control...

I just like customization... I don't want something regular... You just downloaded yours? .. Well, i made mine myself...

Oh, And I like the fact you throw your start-tab at the site... Mine as at the left of my screen btw... Works pretty easy once you get used to it....

Nah, made it myself. It's all static cause I'm not much into registry editing or anything like that. But it works for me.

And yeah, with a wide screen having a right or left-aligned toolbar saves so much space! Ur right, it's great once you get used to it (took me a lil' while but I wouldn't have it any other way now) :)

Oh Excuse me.. Thought they were colapsable or something...

In case you made it yourself: great job...

Clean, consequent, to the point and quite professional.. :D

They only thing: It doesn't match with the rest of your Windows theme/skin/suite...

I made mine myself (ofcourse :p... --> .Xml edditting )

oh,
And when I'm on some-one elses pc, I'm always looking for the toolbar... :d...

Nope, not collapsible - I don't do xml. :( And you're right, it doesn't match my theme. It's just a work computer though - hence the boring 'professional' look.

Impulsive: how the hell do you get reg files to do that sort of thing? Got any good websites with some tips/pointers. Seems interesting.

Rachjm: I like the idea of your background, i used to have something similar but kept running out of space in the boxes, haha
