New MSN Rules

Postby johneva on Thu Feb 16, 2006 7:21 pm

Hi all

I take it that MSN has just changed all there rules on how they rank websites, cos since they have changed the colour of there search page(Yesterday I think). My websites rank has droped off the scale and to really take the mic the top sites dont have any links or any Google PR.

Hows that?

Has everybody else found this too?

Oh well MSN dont get much of the market anyways.

Thanx John

True true, but I dont know what I am going to do now my job at the min is trying to improve a websites search engine rank, and now they have just gone off the scale for MSN.

I dont even know where to start to try and improve it cos I dont understand why the sites at the top are at the top.

Have you seen them?

There's a lot of things to know when you optimize, it's different for Google, Yahoo and MSN. Some days, sites gets out of the rank and get back in the next few days. So wait a couple of days to see if there actually have been any difference. Check the cache of your page, maybe it's something wrong with it.

Na it is a revamp they have changed the look and everything too.

It is not just me either.

I found this on another forum I use after post that message on here.
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=58633

It seems they may have chaged something further though, cos now when I do a seach with the box on my MSN email account it is back to roughly how it was before , slightly better even(2nd place for Lease Hire).

And yeah I know diffrent seach engines give diffrent results cos they use diffrent ALGO's.

We are rank no.1 in Ask Jeeves(Teoma) for Lease Hire and Contract Hire UK and aroung 6th for Lease Hire UK and Contract Hire.

But they only take a very tiny part of the market.

We are ranked Pretty good in Yahoo for a couple of them key word combos and not quite so good for the other couple of combos.

Google we are 11th for Contract Hire and 4th for Lease Hire.

I am still working on getting more links at the min too so I am hoping for some more improvements yet.

Mayve MSN has tweaked their algo a bit with the new design changes. But it will take a few days before there are any proofs of that all the datacenters has been changed.

You will probably see some more dancing with your results, many websites are bouncing up and down, doesn't seem like the update is over.

get more IBL's with your keywords / keyphrases in the anchor text. That works better than single other thing AND it works across all SE's

I expect MSN to catch up with Google in terms of algo as soon as they're done with Vista....
