Opening photos as cascade or float in all windows

When I open several photos together, they are all docked together, and the first thing I do is click "float in all windows" to separate them or cascade them. Is there a way in CS5 of getting them to ALWAYS open separately as a cascade. Also I like a tiny bit of canvas to show around each photo, so I can see the edges of the photo. Is there a way to do that by default as well ?
