Hi. I've done this before but I've completely forgotten how. I want to put an outer glow around the policeman. I'm obviously forgetting something important, becasue I can get it round the entire square frame but not just round the figure. I've attached the image .

The policeman image needs to be on it's own layer. Then apply the outer glow.

That's where I'm going wrong. I selected the white / then selected inverse / then dragged the figure onto a new layer .......... and still it doesn't work.

Looking at the photo - you seem to have done it .... but how ?
I've tried and tried and still can't do it. What is driving me mad, is that I've done it before, and I've forgotten how. I've been trying for a week now with no joy.

I tried that as well to begin with, but found too much scattered bits of white left behind. So I worked around the image using the polygonal lasso tool, inverted then deleted. After that the outer glow worked fine as you can see.
I don't understand why it didn't work for you. Perhaps someone else here can shed some light?

The outer glow wont show up against a White Background - i believe - because it uses the Screen blend mode.

Try changing the background to Black or some other darker color to see if it is indeed working or not.

Or change the blend mode of the Outer Glow in the Outer Glow options to something else, like "Normal".
