Outline a shape in a picture and change background colour

I want to get the original image that I have and make the image all white expect for the shoes. (pretty much the same thing I did in Step 9c but with colour).

I didnt know that I was doing too much.
I just followed the instructions on the web link.

well, examine what your doing with each step... "desaturating" is obviously not a good choice....the template i sent you was something to reference not to follow step by step....ill try to explain this in words...if your still having trouble I'll illustrate steps when i get home form work....

starting fresh...
copy your original layer...
rename your new layer "working"
delete the original layer (i only had you do this just incase it was a locked backround layer)

now you should just have "working" layer....
click button to create mask layer....
click layer thumbnail, once,
with the brush tool, "mask out" everything you dont want....
done.

that works good.

but i was thinking...what if i just paint whatever i dont want white?
i dont know why i didnt think of that earlier.
