Pathfinder Trouble - Compound Path Remove Back??? Please hlp

Pathfinder Trouble - Compound Path Remove Back??? Please hlp

Postby JHendrix1217 on Tue Jun 05, 2007 3:41 pm

Hey guys,

I have been using Illustrator CS2 for a while now but I have never been officially "taught" anything.

I am trying to create an effect by drawing a bunch of lines (paths with strokes) and using those to "knock out" those spaces in some text.

Essentially, I would like to make the text look striped, with lines cutting through the text. I know I should be able to do this with the pathfinder tool, but it doesn't seem to be working.

I got this to work using a live-traced image -- I used the following tutorial --> (http://www.illustratortechniques.com/di ... dtype.html).
This, however, involved an image which was live-traced and used as the texture -- I would like to use my own paths as the texture. No matter what I do (compound path, ungrouped, grouped)... the remove back function doesnt work.

Please help! I've been messing with this for a couple hours and it's really bothering me. Thanks in advance!

Sounds to me like you need to expand the outline before using the path finder.

This will turn the stroke into a shape which can be used properly.
