Pattern around a sphere

Postby npinson on Fri Oct 30, 2009 5:32 pm

Hello all,
I'm trying to create something that resembles a sun. Basically a sphere with a grid of colors in the center, then short "rays" following around the perimeter of the circle. The rays are simply short curved lines.

I'm trying to find a way to draw one of the lines, then duplicate more of them around the circle.

Anyone know of a good way to do this?

I thought Illustrator might have a way to do this, but I'm not very familiar with the program.

Any help appreciated,
Nathan Pinson

hi,
I don't know if this is a good/best way I j ust know it works for me

1. draw your curvy line from center to where you want.. on a new layer...
2. then duplicate that layer
3 now select (hit the move tool)
4. hit the ctrl T and bring the center pint down to the bottom that will become a pivot point
4. then at the top change angle from 0 to let say 15 degrees and hit return
5. and you will see it change....
here the magic to magic for the rest of it... and much quicker to duplicate
6. while the 2nd one is seleted do a ctrl+alt+shift+T and hit return oafter the cahnge... it will automaticaly advance the angle another 15 degrees but put it on a sepet layer.. and you just repeat the process... yo can make about 20 or 30 of these in just a few sec's...

Ah very interesting Jerry. I tried it really quick with a line i drew and and just like that I have a primitive sun. Using Ctrl+Alt in front of any keyboard shotcut with repeat the operation for you right?

For a bit I was considering using AutoCad to make to the outline, then import it or take a screenshot into Photoshop.

Thanks, works great
