hi idad,
beat me to it... i was thinking along similar line... use poster edges and play with setting to get deatils and then i went to brightenss and contrast....
after that did experimentation with the photofileter serpia and adjusting the density, .. got close.. but not happy.. so what i did after that
i desaturated.... and then created a new layer.. and filled it with color #767178 it sort of a purple color and that i adjusted the opacity of the layer.. got fairly close to what guys example was...

I cut out the hand, created a new layer with it
Then >Filter gallery >poster edges>(I didn't save settings), play around with that a bit,if I remember right it was the edge intensity and edge thickness that helped. Set it where you want then use the blur tool on certain areas. Then after all set with that Image> brightness contras>just a bit,to get it where you want.
I am sure there are steps I'm forgetting if you get hung up let me know where, that will jog my memory.
Good luck!
edges may need to be feathered out and layer duplicated to get the blackish edge(add black to bottom layer) you see the effect on outer edges Hope that makes sense
