Photoshop CS4 Select -> Modify -> Expand help please.

Postby Pennzoil on Sat Apr 23, 2011 3:47 am

Im selecting a layer of Rasterized text by holding ctrl and clicking the layer.

I then get my initial selection.

I then try to expand my selection using: Select -> Modify -> Expand

It expands my selection but it rounds all the corners, it wont keep the pointy sharp corners of the selection.

My question: Is there a way to grow my selection and keep the sharp edges?

Ive tried the Transform Selection option and it keeps the pointy edges but it doesnt expand uniformly from the edges. it expands as if it were a whole object.

I would be grateful for any help anyone could give me.

hi,
i am not sure what your exactly doing.. however... on a selection it will do that if you modify and expand ...

now what might work, but again i am not sure what kind results your really wanting...

make your selection, and then convert that into a path... and then use free transform path.... now you can enlarge and keep your sharp points and then you can convert that path into a selection .... you'll keep your sharp oints that way..

as i said i don't know what the project is or what the results are supposed to look like... but that the only thing i can think of...

Hello,
The following is a simple way to retain sharp corners when using modify/expand/:
Make your selection, or drag marquee etc. Expand by any number of pixels. fill selection... The new size will have rounded corners as expected. At this point drag guidelines to the outer edges of the new size. Make sure guide preferences are set accordingly. Once the guides are placed, use the marquee tool to drag and snap to guides, and then simply fill with colour, outline or whatever you require. Hope this helped, I use it all the time.
