Adobe has announced that the next version of Photoshop (CS4) will support 64bit architecture. Apperently, the most speed boost will be given to users working with large images and has a lot of RAM memory (over 32 GB). For users with 4 GB RAM, the speed increase should according to Adobe be 8%-12%.
Another interesting thing with this... but first some history:
The first version of Photoshop was released in 1988 and only for Mac users.
The Windows users could not enjoy playing with Photoshop until 1992 when version 2.5 was released. Ever since then, the PC and the Mac version has been released at the same time.
The interesting thing then:
The 64bit-edition will only be available for Windows users, the Mac users will have to use the 32bit version of CS4.
Adobe haven't announced any release date yet, but according to the release dates of the old versions, a good guess would be in the first half of 2009.
