PNG file and text

Postby Ironside on Thu May 21, 2009 5:25 pm

if I create a transparent PNG file with text, the text is never really that good, it's always a little bit ragged around the edges unlike if it is done in fireworks.. I have tried various options, sharp, strong etc but the text is always looks rubbish unless it has a background colour.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Can you post an image so we understand more clearly... posting the PNG with messed up text would be ideal.

The two links below show images created in photo shop and fireworks, you can see the difference between the two. They were both created on transparent backgrounds and saved as a PNG

Well the sharp / crisp thing would be my first guess, but you say you have tried that. This may sound like a dumb question, but when you changed the text blending from sharp to crisp or none to strong or what have you, did you make sure the text was selected - like highlighted?

If that doesn't work I am afraid I can think of nothing else at the moment...

It seems that the ragged edges to the text only appears on letters that don't have either horizontal or vertical edges. Anything with an angle/curve shows jagged edges as you can see. I have tried all those settings and none of them improve the look of the text. I guess I'll keep using fireworks for transparent gifs.
