Possible to punch objects through pictures ?

Postby Ultra on Sun Jun 24, 2007 12:31 am

Hi,

I have a picture here and I want to cut out certain parts of the picture in a certain shape.

I layed the layer with the shape that I wanna cut out on top of the image.

Now, I was wondering if it is possible in Photoshop to punch objects through pictures or other objects ?

I know that there is an option in Fireworks but it only works with shapes (as far as I know)...

Or is there another way to create multiple shapes and turn them into a marquee to cut those paths out ... ?

Thanx for your help in advance !

If I am understanding your question correctly, you could make the selection you want and then save the selection to a file (select > save selection). Then you could load it whenever you want, kind of like a cookie cutter.

As I understood this, you want an object to cut through your picture..
Let's say an arrow piercing an apple ..

"Or is there another way to create multiple shapes and turn them into a marquee to cut those paths out ... ? "

There is.
If you place your shape/object below the picture then you can make a selection of the object by ctrl + left clicking the layer box (the box with the image of what is in the layer to be excact). Now you can simply choose the picture as your work layer, hit delete and the object will stad out.

If you want to marque more than one object at a time, hold down shift while clicking the layer box.
To remove parts of the selection, use one of the other marque tools while holding down Alt.

You'd still have to do some tweaking to make th e punched in objects look realistic, like adding shadow or so.
