Okay, I'm trying to create my own pc.

... yes.. me
---------------------------------------------
Anyways, so far I've gotten myself:
CPU (processor, right?)
Motherboard
Video card
Harddisk (I think)
RAM (DDR or dual something?)
Cabinnet (it's way cool!)
Cooler (just don't know what it's for)
------------------------------------------------

--=IMPORTANT; Aim is gaming/adobe pc!=--
--=LESS IMPORTANT; I've been translating some of the words since they where in danish, not sure if it's all correct though.. Also, if you need more info about something just tell me=--

My genial intelligens (google) tells me all theese are the parts you need to create your own pc.

My problem:
I don't know if theese parts will work together. I've been trying, but I'm not sure, especially not for RAM ..
Also, if anyone ahs any suggestions on better parts Ill be happy to hear them (like dual core instead of hyper threading? never got that part ..).

Dude you have selected DDR2 RAM and that MOBO supports DDR RAM they are not compatiable and it wont even fit in the slot.

Also if you wanna do gaming you will be better off with the new PCI-E solt for your MOBO as the AGP slot are for the older video cards.

That video card is PCI-E so it wont fit that MOBO.

Your also missing a very important part the Power Supply Unit (PSU). Get a good one of these as if it goes it could also take out your MOBO and if your running high performace parts and overclocking you will run out off power getting to the parts.

The cooler is to replace the standard CPU cooler as if you plan on overclocking the intel cololers suck there noisey and not good at cooling.

Right this is what I have come up with the parts are all compatiable and will work better than the parts you have selected too. I have spent a touch more but then I also got you a few more bits too.

Intel Pentium 4 805 Dual Core "LGA775 Smithfield" 2.66GHz (533FSB) - Retail (CP-116-IN) £86 (Brill at over clocking I have seen loads of these running at 4Ghz)

Asus P5LD2 Deluxe Intel 945X (LGA775) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-108-AS) £100

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC5400 Dual Channel Gold GX XTC Series EL-DDR2 (OCZ26672048ELGEGXT-K) (MY-069-OC) £159

PowerColor ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-048-PC) £247

FSP Sparkle AX500-A Blue Storm 500W ATX2.0 PSU (CA-005-SK) £59

Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 300GB ST3300622AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-066-SE) £77

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR) £19

Total £744.54

From here anyways http://www.overclockers.co.uk

Link to the shopping cart I made of these parts.

And the case you selected.

This is assuming you dont want any CD/DVD drives, keyboard, mouse, screen and any other Peripherals too.

But there are lots of people who say you will get a better system for your money if you go to an AMD system. They have just brought out there AM2 socket so they can now support DDR2 RAM too but the repots I have herd back so far say it has not made much diffrence yet.

If you were gonna spend anymore money I would say if you can wait a few months then Intel are bringing out the new Conrow rage of processors and they are supposed to way out performe the AMD procs who rule the power game at the min.

Although I have lernt a lot since doing my new build I would recommend going on the overclockers forum and asking the question on there though as them guys really do know there stuff.
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk

As for you question what is overclocking it is where you go into your BIOS setting and alter some of the settings to increase the performance of your parts.

Not sure how good it is but here is an article I found on overclocking it will at least give you an idea about what overclocking is all about.

Thank you so much Johneva!

I've also heard that AMD is going about 50% down on prices by the 25th of Juli.
This is why I'll wait with buying my parts, just trying to find them right now. If the new INTEL Conrow your talking about isn't out by that time, it's just a shame.

Also, I need a Pc that I can upgrade as the requirements go up.

I've read that you can't overclock Intel Pentium 4, true?
And Shouldn't I get SLI?

I need some explenation here:
If you have four places for your RAM to sit in your MOBO, you can start off by placing two modules of Dual Core RAM, then later upgrade with two more.
If you have three places for your RAM, you can start off by placing two modules of Dual core RAM but later you'll only have space for one rRAM, and then the Dual channel is ineffective.
(read in a danish article, tried to translate it by my best means)

The processor you found, will it run by 2.66 Ghz or 2.66 Ghz x 2 ?

Yeah that is when Conroe are ment to come out but I would not go near the first set of procs though, as there are always problems with the first few in anything.

You can overclock Pentium procs but they have there multiplyer locked making then not very good for overclocking as it is important to reduce the multiplyer so you can raise the FSB.

But there are MOBOs that have a multiplyer unlock like the Asus MOBO I have. I am not 100% sure it is on the MOBO I suggested to you though thinking about it so worth checking.

SLI is for when you have two Nivia graphics cards that are SLI you run two at the same time like the ATI version Crossfire. So if you plan on running two graphics cards then yes you will want either crossfire or SLI support on your MOBO and on your graphocs cards. But it is better to have one good card rather than have two not so good ones.

I think you should read my reply again, I updated it a couple of times xD

Thanks ..

So SLI would you'd have two really great graphic cards at the same time a bit like dual core?

Is the graphic card you suggested good?

Yeah I just did the same too.

Right the memory yes your right when you have two sticks off memory you set them to dual channel so they are working together as one sort of. But if you only have three slots then it is not possiable to run in dual channel as the third stick of RAM has no second stick to work with.

Though this is not a problem really as most new MOBOs come with 4 slots anyways. ;)

Yeah dual core is 2x whatever but it does still not work literally twice as fast they are just better at multitasking so you can run anti-virus whilst running you games or something.

Yeah the X1800 is the third best ATI card there is the only better ones being the X1900 XT and the X1900 XTX but the X1900s are min off £270 and there not that much better though they are better.

Wether you go with ATI or Nivia is just down to personal prefrence I think really same as the Intel Vs AMD situation. some say one is better some say the other is better. I personally dont think there is a great deal of diffrence myself really.

So with a 2x 2.6 GHz CPU I would'nt be able to run a game that demands at least a 3.0 GHz ?

What the difference in DDR II SDRAM and just DDR SDRAM ?

More, what should I get ..

Yes you would still be able to run a game with the min requirement of 3GHz as a game with such requirements would also make use of the dual core.

Also as I say this processor is highly overclockable too, I have seen loads of people running them at 4GHz. With that CPU cooler I recommended you wont get any better unless you use water cooling and with that MOBO I suggested it has a few programs that make overclocking for first timers very easy. Then that OCZ Gold RAM will also make the system very overclockable as RAM is another limitin g factor in overclocking.

Though if you could afford to go upto the next level in dual core Intel processors (930) that is a 3Ghz it is also has 4mb L2 cache instead od 2mb. It has a 65nm Process Technology meaning it will run cooler and it also has a 800MHz front side bus speed instead of 533MHz. But they are £144 instead of £86.

DDR II runs at higher speeds it also has a diffrent amount of pins DDR II is 240 and DDR is 180 so they wont fit in the same slots.

So which you use comes down to what your MOBO takes. Most have now started using DDR II the new AMD processors on the AM2 socket systems are now using DDR II and most new Intel systems are running DDR II as well.

Okay, good to know.

I'm thinking I might go one up in CPU if the prices will drop by the next month. As far as I've heard, it's only AMD going down in price, so I'd need another CPU.
Just wierd if one company is going down in price, usually the others follow.

Water cooling is very exspensive and not very easy for a first timer like me?
And how much would you suggest I could run the CPU you've suggested if I OC it? says: Great overclocking potential (Reports of upto 4Ghz on air) on the website. I don't want to risk anything but do you think I can run it at 3.6GHz with the cooler you've shown me?

What does the 4mb L2 cache mean?.. What's it for?
Hope you don't mind me asking all theese questions, there's just so many things you have to think about.

Really appreciate the help though.

Intel already dropped there prices a month ago. ;)

Yep your right water cooling is quite expencive you would not want to spend any less than £200 on it or your not gonna see any benefit over an air cooled system.

The L2 cache is the memory in the processor. Here is an explaination from wikipedia.
