Overheating?

Hello everyone!

I have a notebook which stays open the entire day, because I use it for work. But lately I couldn't touch the area of the speakers because it was really hot. I downloaded SpeedFan and the temperature was about 83 Degrees Celsius I got it to drop to 63 after keeping a fan on my desk pointing directly on it This week I'm going to install airconditioning in the appartment because temperature outside has reached 39 C.
I've seen a notebook-base with a usb-fan in an online-shop. Do you think it will work? Any other solutions before my notebook melts down?

Yeah, I think the fan-pad for putting under the laptop may work. Since the hottest parts of the machine are right above the bottom panel of the laptop, it's best to cool the bottom of it, so it might just help. But, maybe you'd go back to the store with the machine first, it isn't supposed to be THAT hot... Still have warranty?

How long have you had it? The fans gets pretty dusty after a while and looses their effectiviness. So if you can turn your laptop upside down and blow as hard as you can in the fans, most of the dust should go away. You can also take of the chassi and clean them better, but only do this if you don't still have any warranty. If you have, send it back for reparation.

Oh my I still have warranty so I'll better go and ask at the store. I have it 1,5 year and I've noticed the problem the last month. I've checked for dust but taking off the chassi is way too risky for me. Thank you for the help! I guess notebooks aren't built to work 24/7..

That shouldn't be any problems, mine is on 24/7 without any problems.

You think? Well I called the store and they said that it's ok and the airconditioning will help (d#mn summer!!).

I searched the constructor's forum and found that

The recommended maximum temperature is 100C - it's the same as a lot of the mobile Celeron processors. The catastrophic shutdown temperature for the Pentium M is a rather amazing 125C (or 135c - I can't remember exactly). So the computer is running well within the specifications from Intel.

If it stays hot during the fall, you'd better get your butt over to the store again, to profit from your last days of warranty.
