Shortcut

Ok I just got CS2 and the first thing I miss is the selection shortcut, the one I am referring to is the one, when you put your curser over the layer that you will work in and you hold the ctrl key down and click. It is so helpful I used it all the time. So the question is what shortcuts is there that work some what like that did. I am pulling my brains out of my ears. Help Please.
I look up help and did not find anything

and go through them and set them up how you like em.
