Xampp, big problem with mysql

Postby nighthawk on Sat Aug 05, 2006 8:48 pm

Well i don't know what went wrong but mysql doesn't work anymore. When i click mysql_start it starts and cmd windows pops up as usual but that all it does. I can't do anything else - I can't connect to mysql or even shut it down. When I click mysql_stop it just beeps. I also noticed that mysql process uses about 3 Mb of memory, I think it shoul use about 20.

I tried to reinstall xampp, I have non-install version so I just deleted it folder and unziped package again as the instruction says. It didn't help. Then I tried to install mysql as system process but that was also useless.
I don't know what to do, new download wouldn't help (I alredy have undamaged zip package).

Can someone help me?

I think something went AWOL in your registry. You might be able to find some strings concerning mysql by using regedit. If it goes wrong, please don't say I made you do it ;) Regedit is a serious application, deleting wrong strings could make the problem even worse.

I'd go for the easy way. Download WAMP server. I've been using it for about a year now, haven't had to reinstall it so far :)

I installed WAMP and everythign was OK for some time and then the same problem error 2003, cant' connect to mysql.

I found nothing with regedit, then I scanned registry with reg. mechanic and reinstalled wamp, nothing works, looks like I will have to reinstall Windows

Not that it helps but so you know if you ever come accross it again AWOL is Absent With Out Leave it origionated from a miliitry term for soldiers who go off from there dutys without permimsion.

As for your problem dont you just love the stability of Windows I have not managed to have a setup where everything works as it should there is always something that stops working as it should thanks to good old windows.

Nighthawk make sure no virus or firewall apps are blocking the mysql process from running on your computer's outbound ports.

I have a separate machine on my network running Redhat with apache, php, and Mysql in an environment almost identical to how a webhost would run. I suggest just spending a small amount of money on an old 500mhz machine or using an old computer that you may have lying around.

No, I tried to run it without firewall and antivirus, the same thing.

Old computer - well this is my first PC, as you can see I live in Serbia, here you need two or three month salaries even for an old PC so that is not an option.

I solved it. Problem was Outpost firewall. I configured it not to start with the system because I'n not online all the time. But before it was started and/or shut down mysql wasn't working.
