I just started working on a real project and decided to use CSS for layout instead of tables. This is a quick test to see how things work in Firefox and IE 6

IE:

It looks simillar but not the same, so why not just use tables, many people do.

I also noticed that text-decoration:blink doesn't work in ie

Yeah different browsers have their own defaults set various markup elements, it's just a good idea to just define everything to keep good cross browser compatibility no matter if the W3C validation complains or not.

You might be able to set up some div's in the CSS, using absolute positions. That should fix the problem. Unfortunately, IE and FF handle borders around div's and tables differently, still resulting in a 2px height and width difference.
