link to download jpg file (NOT to open it)

I hope to create a link for people to download a jpg file. IF I use <a href> tab, it will open a new IE and display the file only. But I hope to function as like "SAVE AS", so the "SAVE AS" pop-up can appear and people can choose the location to save it.

How can I do it?

You need to compress the file with winzip or something that way they download the zipped file instead of diplaying the image file.

Thanks for prompt reply. But if I zip the jpg file, I have to spend nearly double hard disk space. One jpg for preview, one zip file for download. And it will cause inconvenience for people to unzip files.

The only other way is to trust the user to right click the image and save as which is how I get images from sites rather than looking for a link to download the file.

Otherwise as you say when linking to the image file all it will do is display the image in a new window.

Show the image in your program using <img> tag and let user by itself save it by right clicking on it.
