Illustrator: Logo help > Spherical archs

Hey there, cool forums you guys and gals have here. I was curious how I would go about creating sweeping archs - like those seen in the images below - with Illustrator for use in a logo.

I've tried a few differnt ways all to no avail

Any help would be greatly appreciated
