Help needed, create dot trail

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum, id like to ideally attach a screen shot of the effect I need, but will try and explain in case it doesnt work? Its like a halfone screen with smaller dots to the outside, the difference is that the dots are spaced equally regardless of size? I have tried creating a symbol then fine tuning with the symbol shifter but this didnt really work. I have also tried paintbrush styles to no avail. Anyone out there who can help, will be appreciated.

Not sure exactly what you are talking about or if this will help, but have you tried the distribute spacing function in the align pallette?
