Wii X360 PS3 review

I have played around with all three. I thought I'd just mentioned some points (some are of course opinions) for those that are interested in buying one of these, I'll try to be to the point.

All three consoles are great, it more or less depends on what you want. Ive made some categories (good, bad & ugly), I suggest you don't just read the good, because there are some bad & ugly things in there...

- Wii -

The Good:

It's small, it's silent.
Has cardreader and wireless LAN standard.
Great motion detection, get's you jumping around your living room.
Get's you strained arms and you (or your friends) get to smash stuff in your house in the heat of battle.
Has some really fun games (Wii sports, rayman raving rabbits)
It's affordable
Play's all gamecube games, has online shop for SNES, NES and sega games.

The Bad:

Not a lot of good games out, just a few.
Games may only be fun for a short while, some people are bored easily.
Extra controllers are quite expensive.
Does not do a lot besides playing games, no DVD/music playback.
Sofar no online play (but will come in the future).
No wired LAN standard.
You have to use batteries for the controllers. (rechange packs are comming from third parties)


The Ugly:

The Graphics. (come on dev's get to work, it's twice as fast as the cube, yet the graphics are twice as ugly)
Does not support HD. (480p max)
Some games do not support widescreen.
The sensor bar.


- XBOX 360 -

The Good:

Now has a very good lineup of cool games. (gears of war, does it get any better?)
Good Online Play.
Powerful hardware.
Excellent graphics.
Nice interface.
Play's DVD's, Music, Trailers etc.
Downloadable demo's for most games.
Lot of developer support.
HD output's for audio and video.
Excellent controllers. (really they are very ergonomic, very solid/durable)
VGA cable available, you can hook it up to a monitor.

The Bad:

It's noisy.
It does not have a lot standard...you want wireless controllers? you pay, you want rechargeable controllers? you pay, you want a HDD?, you pay, you want wireless LAN?, you pay...pay, pay, pay.
No HD movie playback (unless...you pay)
Online not free (you pay)
You can only connect microsoft stuff to it. (the machine has the potential but you can not do anything else on it or connect anything else...not even if you pay, microsoft owns you)
Not very backward compatible only about 270 xbox titles work (but work continues)

The Ugly:

It is seriously noisy, and I mean REALLY NOISY (my biggest complaint)
It has an external power supply the size of a house brick (really it's huge, it's ugly and also a bit noisy since it actively cooled).
Has a plasticy cheapy feel to console.
Don't move it while it's on unless you are planning to use it as a DVD shredder.


- PS3 -

The Good:

A very nice solid looking machine, it runs silent, very powerful hardware.
Has a lot standard. (HDD, cardreader, GBit LAN, wireless LAN, wireless USB-rechargeable controllers)
Has a decent web browser in the PS3 menu with flash/javascript support.
Free Online Play.
Runs Linux (yellowdog and sony have developed a free downloadable Linux especially for the PS3, already has a lot of ported apps, work continues to improve this linux)
HD (blu ray)/DVD Movie & music playback.
HD output's for audio and video.
The PS3 menu and webbrowser work pefectly with most USB keyboards and mice.
Downloadable demos for most games.
Most 'open' and general purpose console. (it's almost a pc)
Motion detection in controllers.
You can easily replace the internal (60gb 2.5 inch sata) HDD with a bigger one. (It's in the PS3 manual)
No external power supply.

The Bad:

The price of the console.
Dowloads can be slow.
PS2 style controllers. (years of research, dozens of designs, and they come back to this?, what's up with that?)
Not a lot of developer support yet. (apparently you need an IQ of 276 to understand how to program for the 8 core cell CPU architecture)
Not a lot of good game titles out yet.
The PS3 OS (operating system) sometimes feels unpolished.
No HD cable in the box.
European version not fully backward compatible, at the moment only about 1000 PS2 games work (but work continues)
No VGA connection cable yet.

The Ugly:

The controllers.
Currently bad ports of cross platform games (come on dev's...it's has a weird architecture, but get to work on it and show the power of this machine)

Reading your post i got the impression that PS3 is the best of the three, which is probably true. The biggest advantage is probably it's CPU which is far better than competition. And abbility to install linux will bring lots of new software, and new functions to it.

Yes my opinion is that as a machine the PS3 is the best, I would say that the PS3 has the most potential. the question is what will developers do wth it? Currently the 360 has an awful good lineup of games and more then a year head start. I'd say right now, as a gaming machine, the 360 is very good, but I have no idea how it will look in a year from now. (of course those excellent 360 games are always going to be there )

The Wii is also a lot of fun, I hope they do more cool things with it. If I had more time I'd like to do something with it, it's the only console which actually has an affordable development kit.

The PS3 is definitely the best machine. At this point of the "games race," it's almost all about opinon. The 360 has graphics and games (Halo, to be specific), the PS3 has graphics and hardware, and the Wii has new, innovative gameplay that actually works. It's hard to say one is better than the other.

P.S.: The Wii is getting a DvD player and online features sometime in 2007.

The Wii does have music playback I was listening with my Wii the other day from my SD Card.

Might be a firmware update then, at time of writing no playback. All 3 consoles have more functionality now from firmware updates.

All me and roommate played last semester was Soul Calibur 2 and Tony Hawk Underground. Needless to say I now have a ps3, and THPG THP8 and Skate, and i will be getting Soul Calibur 4.

But is there anything that I have been missing out on as multiplayer goes. I feel like there gotta be something good multiplayer.
