That canvas look

Postby tombothetominator on Thu Apr 12, 2007 9:25 pm

Hey All,
Decided to mess with a macro picture of a flower i took while out of town this weekend. I was kind of going for that painting on canvas look. Only about 45 min spent on this so don't be too harsh.

I went ahead and left the original photo on the right for comparison. C&C welcome of course. :)

Thanks!
As far as what i did:
I did a levels adjustment and upped the saturation of the original (my basis for any photo i take, just to correct the gray i end up getting from any camera i touch).
From here I created a new lineart version of the flowers (via smartblur - edge only, poster edge, cutout). I then removed all white from this layer leaving only the lines themselves, and reduced the opacity down to ~50%.

Then i took a merged version of this image (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+E) and applied a conte crayon filter, with sandstone texture. I then added a secondary texture of canvas to it. On top of this i put another copy of the merged version and set it to overlay (this colors the black/white conte layer).

Finally a basic hue/saturation and brightness/contrast adjustment to get the lighting back to where i wanted it.

u actually re draw it? cuz u could simply use the ink-outlining filter...

No, i didn't redraw it. By going to smart blur - selecting edge only and messing with the settings you get a basic lineart image. Then i went to poster edge to get more solid lines on the image. Finally do a cutout filter, and adjust to look good. I find that this method allows me a lot more control over creating lineart than a simple ink outline filter would (which doesn't give you actual lineart, and creates a lot more errant splotches than i wanted)

:)
