Hey all,

I stumbled across this technique whilst trying to create a 3D wiremesh of a womans face, and considered it interesting enough to post:

Nice Halftone CD, but that was one of the interesting things about this technique- it's NOT haltone. The dots are symetrical in size, it is the luminance variation that lends detail to the image as a whole.

I'm currently experimenting with using the variable size of the dots in halftone images to lend detail to the wiremesh, combining it with a displacment map. Hopefully, the result will be a more accurately detailed 3D wiremesh than has been attainable in Photoshop in the past.

This image has been an intersting side-effect of those experiments.

ok.. i was just taking it lightly. BTW mine was not exactly halftone either.

"Halftone is the reprographic technique that simulates continuous tone imagery through the use of equally spaced dots of varying size. 'Halftone' can also be used to refer specifically to the image that is produced by this process." ---source wikipedia

My dots are not varying in size, they are equal in size(fill pattern). But definitely not following your process.

I looked at it for too long, and now my head hurts. Cool effect, especially for an accident (ish).

Reminds me of a piece I did a while ago using color (instead of luminosity) to creat an image. Albeit mine was over text, not uniform dots.
