eliminate background

Postby PK on Sun Jul 08, 2007 9:50 am

New to this, can someone tell me the best way to eliminate the background of a photo? I want to see only the people, and have a black backgound. I have tried the magic wand, but this is difficult to get all the subject in, in fact, cant get it the way I would like it. IS there another tool to use?I try the wand, select inverese then layer via copy...but the wand is too tough.....anyone?

You can chante the tollerance of the wand tool to change the range of colours it will select. However, for this one, you will probably be best using the extract tool (image>extract) - use the pen to draw over the line you want around the edge, use the fill bucket to fill the area you wish to keep and click 'preview' - photoshop will then try to figure out where the line goes around the edge. You can then use the other tools to ensure you get just what you want.

use the pen tool set to paths and trace around the edge then go to paths palette and right click and hit make selection then hit copy and boom perfect people cutout.
