PS won't work when not logged on as admin

Postby nighthawk on Thu Jun 28, 2007 8:13 pm

I am logged in a Limited User account due to safety reasons. Photoshop won't work, error message says it need administrators privilleges to run. I have read only access to c: (system drive).

Anybody knows an easy solution for this or will I have to search on my own.

P.S. I don't wan't to run it as admin (Run As.. command)

The first question is: why the fuss over administrative privelages? To keep out somebody you dont want to mess with settings, ect??

And why dont you want to use run as - administrator?

My best advice to get it done would be to add whatever this limited user's name is to the securities list to have full access to the photoshop folders (program files, all users/application data) and see if that works.

Hmm.. I had this problem with a game once.
I ran some kind of script that allowed my user to run the game as administrator without changing accounts or giving that acc. full admin. rights.
I'm pretty sure that script only worked for that game, but perhaps it's something like this you'll need?

@tombothetominator

Thanks, I sometimes forget the obvious, I'll give me full access to PS folders.

I use limited account because I got some sensitive files, and they are not all encrypted, I just used file permissions.

@Excuciating

I would like to see that script, I could probably modify it to run PS.

No problemo, hope it works for ya.

Also - if you are looking for a good encryption tool, check out:

Throw all your encrypted files into a volume that you can mount/unmount at will = good stuff for those of us who dont like re-typing a password in for every file we open, but are security-minded as well. :)

I'm already using it, excellent program. Blowfis is also interested, but it can encrypt only files, not folders.

The problem was that I used PS from admin acc. and then saved file to a folder where limited user didn't have access at all. Annoying bug.
