magnetic lasso problem

I am very new to photoshop. a week and a half i have been using it and i realised its potential......however fifteen minutes back while using my major tool the "lasso" i clicked on the left hand top and choose "magnetic lasso" from the tool presets until now i wsa using the default setting.
now i want old lasso setting where it dosent select automatically ( the magnetic action that is ), Can anyone suggest how i can render the the lasso to the default setting?

I have tried setting all tools to default setting. it didnt work.

Now i am struggling to select areas in the picture.

set the frequency higher, so that i constantly makes new check points

click+hold on the tool till you get the fly-out with all the options for the tool, then select the regular lasso.

should be able to right click the tool to get the polygonal or the regular lasso. if not alt + click or what tombo said above^
