A sketch

Postby Medley on Tue Jul 10, 2007 9:12 pm

A lady friend of mine is having a birthday next week, and I plan to give her a matted and frame version of this sketch. I thought I'd post it here to get your comments:

I suppose this is her.
It's nice but maybe it would be better with some background.Maybe someting like a gradient, i don't know but it looks kinda floating.

Yep, agreed. The problem I have with that (at least right now) is that a lot of that sketch is done with layers set at a low opacity. Changing the background also changes some of the hues within the sketch itself.

It's easy enough to fix, I just haven't taken the time as yet.

I would work on defining the facial features a little more, particularly the nose and brow.

It is hard to say exactly what should be done as we don't know what she looks like in real life.

You were right Isick. Athough there are reasons I didn't give the nose more definition, giving it SOME definition was necessary. I gave it some subtle help here with the dodge and burn tools, and fixed the background thing ElectrifieD mentioned:

Well.. I deffinetly like the first one better then.
Her should and hair looks a lot better on that one.
I think you should remove the grey smudges around her hair a bit. was this reference picture -> Wacom Sketchdrawing or Picture -> filters -> Sketch ?

my only real crit (other than the boring backgroud) is the shoulder/arm area. For such a large portion of the picture it just sits there being a boring hunk of meat. Not sure how to fix it though... :( maybe something frilly and girly and vectorish as a design overlay?..

Also - the blurriness on her chest between the chunks of hear is messing with my eyes something fierce.

All in all though - good stuff. :)

Yeah her clevage area seems way blurry like tom said.
And im personally not big on that background...i was thinking maybe just 2 or 3 black/white flowers or somthing placed around the image..just a thought.
