working on pdf with Photoshop

Postby Tex-Twil on Thu Jul 12, 2007 7:38 am

Hello,
I saw a friend doing Photoshop work directly on pdf files. I was really surprised 'cos I thought the Photoshop format for work is .psd.

Is it a good approach to work on pdf file in Photoshop ? What are the adventaged/disadventages ?

Thanks,

that's true. You can open a pdf file in photoshop or save your psd file as pdf. one disadvantage is that all vectors in your pdf file will be converted to rasters.

I am struggling with pdf in Photoshop at the moment, you can save to pdf from Photoshop and keep your vectors.

My problem is that when I do that the file size is very large and I am trying to create product cards in pdf version for the web and if I rasterise the text look sreally dodgy and if I don't the file size is too large, really irritating.

there are plenty such as when you open a pdf file in photoshop the file size will either becomes larger or the other way becomes smaller.

also, base on my experience, photoshop always merge all layers in your pdf file. i don't know if there is a way.

working in PDF isn't something that i would recommend. Stick with PSD, and if you need to, save to PDF for proofs for the client.
