Lost filters!

Postby Rex on Sun Jul 29, 2007 2:58 pm

Hi there,

I am scanning medium format transparencies to get 16 bit, 120mb files which I then edit and save as A3, about 99mb files. These can later be resized to 8 bit for library submission.

I have started to use some PS plug-ins but they are not available in 16 bit. The same file, reduced to 8 bit and I can use them. In fact, the only filters available in 16 bit, are Blur, Noise, Sharpen, Stylize and Other.

Is it me, or is there some kind of restriction in PS CS2 to using plug-ins and filters with 16 bit files?

really grateful for some advice.

Many thanks in advance,

Rex

Yes. For some reason that eludes me running images in any color mode at 16 bit changes the ammount of filters available.

Thanks for your reply.

Good to know that I am not missing something. I will just have to reduce to 8 bit.

Yep, using Lab or CYMK modes also limit the amount of filters. The trick is to adjust your workflow so that you do as much editing as possible in 16Bit mode, and drop to 8 Bits/channel only when absolutely neccessary to access those filters.

Seems that is the case, but the few plug-ins that I want to use are unavailable in 16 bit, and dropping to 8 somewhat invalidates the 16 bit work flow.
