Beginner Question

Postby Mihai_alexandru on Sun Jul 29, 2007 9:07 pm

Hello all this is just my 2nd day with photoshop CS2. I'm only 15 but computers are my passion so I think I shouldn't waste time. Read a begginer's guide to photoshop so I know something about it. Even made a litle sig here :P

Not to complex stuff but these are the results after using photoshop for the 1st time. :P Anyway, before I carry on to greater things I have a litle problem. I tryed to move the UEFA Cup logo from a background, used the magic eraser tool but when I moved it in another photo, to a black background it looks like crap:

Thank you in advance for your help.

magic erasser or whatever isnt a very reliable tool for that. but the only method i use is rather timely and a bit boring at times. BUT i trace around what i want to cut out witht the pen tool then right click and select make selection. then you can copy and paste your selection where ever you please. and if you do it right it should come out beeeeeeeeautiful

I was going to recommend the pen tool as well but i wasn't sure if you ever used it cuz for begginers it's quite a "savage" tool

The only other way i can think of is the magnetic lasso, which might work well for that simple of a shape.

Ok now I'm learning the pen tool. I saw something in a video... what's with the alt trick? I don't know how to use it.

For that simple shape you can use the eraser as well. But you have to magnify the picture. At least i think i would use it for this image. If you have a precise hand it could be done really quick with it.

I want to learn the pen tool. I've pen'd a cercle but it's not perfect. Saw something in a video about some alt trick and the guy did the circle's perfectly. But obviously the guy wasn't to explicit because I don't know what the alt trick exactly does and how to use it. :? Please help.

Ok so you don't know... but how do you shrink a layer in CS2? Saw it's CTRL+P in CS3 but here that is ment for printing.

The 'ALT trick'? basically, when you have the alt key pressed and you are using the pen tool it changes your tool the the 'convert point' tool, which allows you to change one side of your points curve without affecting the other side. If you hold down alt WHILE setting an anchor point it allows you to do this on the fly which can be a time saver once you get used to it.

As far as shrinking a layer, try CTRL+T
