Anybody know how to fix this? The same thing happens with the "cmd" in the run dialog box. I need the reg edit thing to work because my CD/DVD drive messed up again and you need to go in there to change some stuff.

Some viruses, spyware, who knows. Which antivirus software do you have?

If nothing works try repairing your installation.

Is it hardware problem? It's probably that your drive is not working from windows. (you could test it with some bootable linux or Hiren's boot.) I think that it will work when windows is not loaded (like booting from that drive).

If it works with Linux or whatever will there be anything I could do with it to make it work with windows?

As of recent, I've seen reports of the bogus file named regedit.com in Windows systems. This file is actually a Trojan file, which is set the Hidden and System attributes. The regedit.com file may be present in %Systemroot% or %Systemroot%\System32 folders. This file should be deleted.

its regedit.exe you want, i think
