Read time from port(rs 422)

Actually i want a time code..
i have sony vtr... i can control that vtr thruogh VB code(like play, stop etc.). now i want to read the time... like 01:23:43:00

Please help me its urgent

Communication between 2 device always require a protocol. Does the device provides a command to read the time?

If not, I might not be abled to help you.
