Brushes help?

Postby cloudstructure on Tue Jan 08, 2008 5:06 pm

Im having trouble with some brushes i just downloaded ( from here http://www.melsbrushes.wordpress.com )
Theyre really great designs, but when i try to load them up it says "this file is not compatible"
I'm using photoshop 6 - any ideas? Could the files be damaged do you think?

...specifically these ones -http://melsbrushes.wordpress.com/2007/11/29/vector-style-stalks-set-2/
and these http://melsbrushes.wordpress.com/2007/11/30/splatter-set/

The brushes are working fine for me with CS3 Extended. PS6 is pretty old and the brushes were prebably made for a newer version of PS. Maybe you should consider upgrading:wink:.

Ah thank you. Thats makes sense. Yes, i should upgrade - there's probably a whole world of features im missing out on! Ill download a trial now...

In the emantime, does anyone know if there is anyway of converting the sets so they work in my older version?

I don't know if 'converting' is the right word......

A lot of times a brush set will include the images the brushes were derived from, or some examples of the brushes. If you can learn how to create your own brushes, you could then take the example images, and create you own set of brushes for PS6.

In my opinion, it would be far better to try this strategy than to wait for someone who has PS6 to do the conversion, simply because the number of folks still using PS6 is so small. I'm guessing that would be a long wait, but I could be wrong.

Long time noe here. thanks people. Ive upgraded now, but before i did i found this small app called ABRviewer, which 'extracts' the brush image as a PNG which you can then re-open in PS and turn into brushes. Useful bit of kit.
Mean while, i'm enjoying CS2!!
