Does anyone agree with me on this? I notice so many people just come here, get us busy, talented people (:)) to do things for them and expect to give nothing in return. I will happily give advice or instructions in the photoshop forum for free so that people can learn but I'm getting tired of requests.
So, I propose we have a "Market" forum where people can make requests. I think this way, with the idea of a market, people might feel more obliged to give something in return?
If you like helping out kids retouch photographs to make them self thiner and make free logo's for people then obviously you won't agree with me. People pay for stuff like this, the annoying thing is that half the time they don't even reply when you do work for them.
So, market, exchange, request, freelance forum is my vote.

sounds like a great idea, but one problem here...
how are they going to pay us?
send us a chek? (or by pay pal ?
 )
and another thing, how do you decide who is doing the job?
i mean why, for example, should you do the retouch, and not me?
(=why should you get paid and not me - -just for example )
moreover, if i decide that i want to do some design for money, what will stop you from doing it and posting it for free?

It depends on the situation, sometimes everyone submits something and the customer will pick which one they like best, sometimes its first on the scene or the customers preference. Can I point you all at a couple of other forums very quickly:
http://www.namepros.com
http://www.talkfreelance.com
(I'm not advertising, just helping make a point that could improve DEVPPL).
Both forums have market sections, both market sections do extremely well. People frequently post logo request competitions offering $30-40 to the winner!
All payments are PayPal, the sites have reputation systems and feedback systems for trades to ensure you can trust people...
And your last comment, why would I do it and post it for free if i went to the effort of making this thread? :p

ok its makes a lot of sense but,
1. if we post our designs, to the customer to choose, what stops him from just doing: "save image as"
(i suppose we post just a sample or something?)
2.i dont have a pay pal account, can you teach me how to use pay pal,
how much it costs? and stuff like that...by p.m or icq,
325012818
thanks,
great idea!

I get what you are going for here, but the reason i like devppl is that i don't have to be right when i give an answer, im allowed to make a mistake or not quite understand what is being asked. If money is involved it means that i am expected to produce something of a high quality/standard with minimal mistakes/bugs/errors.
My resolution to this is to use devppl for casually helping people and i love the feeling that i can help and it gives me the confidence that i am actually quite good at my field. And then if i want some money or have some free time i use www.getafreelancer.com.
I suppose your idea is a good one that could combine the two ideas together. My worry is that if we have a separate market area what stops people just making requests in the normal areas, would i have to turn someone down and tell them to repost it in the "market"?

Yes, I think webmaster should have that section. Thanks for raising it Tomi.
We should then have an iTrader system, which represents the "rep-system" you mean.

I don't know about this one.
I like DEVPPL because we aren't money driven. (yet)
A lot of other forums talk about making money and throw that opportunity out there. I come here to offer Free advice and help and contribute to a community.
I agree with Flabbyrabbit on this one. There are options out there to make money, but you have to be right ALL the time when it comes to money. A lot of us here aren't pros, and it will be the pros who will be getting all of the jobs anyway. If people are going to pay they're going to pay the most knowledgable and the best.
I have more to say on the topic but I don't want to rant too long, plus I have to regather my thoughts.

I am also with you dylynn and flabbyrabbit. I'm not saying that people pay for advice and education what i want to do is put an end to people asking us to do the whole job, for free...
Fair enough, someone has had a really good attempt at something and is stuck, they post here asking for help, they get advice, go away and use it. That is what Devppl is for.

@dflynn,
Yes, most of the job might turn to the most knowledgeable and pro's, but I think this will also be a good room for improvement and growth for all the members.

Payed work has more demands which means you learn more and get more done. Although its sad to say, being payed for a job gives you more incentive to work and learn, I'm probably just materialistic like that but it works for me...
I get nothing from making a member with 1 post something in photoshop, I don't see any reason to bother, so i wouldn't try, thus i wont learn anything new and i'm not getting anything from it, its a waste of time...

I've thought of adding two forums for this in the future, free services, and payed services. But we need to grow much more before that will work. I will not build any system for it, so it will work like the forums.
But I think it works fine now as well, it's up to each one if you want to help out. I don't have time to do free work for people, so I just ignore it

Payed services would be a good one. Expect me to lurk often on that place
Why would there be a need for free services? We have different sections in the forum already, if they don't post in the "Payed Services" section, then that would mean them asking for a free service.
Oh, and why not just term it as "Looking for script or service" section? Then we should set posting guidelines, for free and for not.
Hope makes sense. Just my 2 cents worth.
