What scripting language is better to learn and why?

Same to the php/CFML poll but for the common scripting languages. (Ruby, JavaScript/Java, ajax etc).

please try to give a proper reason other than "Because its the best". Also i would like a list of pros and cons about both if possable and try to make them your own opinion not 'text book' unless its unavoidable.

I have chosen Javascript. All the languages offer different advantages so it is not really a fair poll. But personally I have found that javascript has helped me achieve the most and best.

well my personal aim is to have at least some knowledge in all types but im mainly looking for the one thats a) most used b) most practical c) best for security and d) can offer the most.
