STROKE gets fatter when I resize object???

STROKE gets fatter when I resize object???

Postby needforname on Wed Aug 20, 2008 9:06 pm

Answered my own Question. I couldn't figure out why my design kept getting fatter stroke lines when I re-sized it down. I found the answer online. There is a setting in Illustrator's preferences that you have to check.

I have no idea why this isn't checked by default, because who the hell wants to resize something and not have it look the same? Pretty dumb in my opinion. Anyway...just go to "prefferences>general> and check the box that says "scale strokes and effects". It will fix the problem.

I'm new to this forum. Is it just on my end, or is this site extremely slow!

I know it seems like no one would use that function, but I switch back and forth between it all the time. I couldn't like without it! You can also access this option in the Transform palette. If you click on the more options arrow in the palette, it lets you check or un-check 'scale strokes and effects'.

If I have a lot of shapes that I want to look the same, like all with the same size stroke around them, and I want to make one smaller/bigger, if I have scale strokes and effects turned on, it will change the stroke of the image i'm resizing. If it's unchecked, I can change the sizes without changing the attributes of the object. I also use it with stroke on text, and with effects like drop shadow and such - so that the objects I'm resizing keep the same appearance as other objects I've already created.
