Out of Memory

Postby Rex on Wed Sep 10, 2008 4:15 pm

Hi there,

Am addressing this to the PS forum because that is where the problem is seen; but it may the problem is somewhere else.

My computer is a Dell 9200, Core-duo, 2 x 250gb hd and 3gb RAM. Have a 6gb scratch on the second hd and performance is set to 70% RAM usage.

I scan 6x7 transparencies, saving them as 16 bit, 130mb files. I tweak in PhotoShop CS3 and frequently use a PS plug-in called CurveMeister. When I run CurveMeister on a separate layer, I always get a 'Unable to complete the operation, out of system memory (RAM)' message.

When I have finished my adjustments I save the file with the longest dimension at 420mm (about 133mb file size) or crop to A3 (99mb file size.) This is my hero file.

Running CurveMeister on a layer with either the 112 or 99mb file, the plug-in flies.

So what is likely to be going on that creates this issue with a larger file?

Grateful for any advice,

Many thanks,

Rex
