Yesterday Google announced that they would be launching a new open source browser, "Google Chrome". It's based on a tabbed interface, but keeping each tab in an isolated "sandbox", they're able to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites.

They said a beta would be released today but can't find it anywhere, will keep looking though. Found this, http://gears.google.com/chrome/?hl=en but it redirects me to Google homepage. Will update this if I find out more.

Just downloaded and installed. Umm first thing i can say is its strange. It resembles a cross between the old full screen on FF2 and IE7.

A few nice features i've found in a few minutes is:
- In built spell checker
- Inspect Element on right click
- Large viewing window
- History looks cool (but haven't explored it yet).

Incognito Mode:
Quote:
Google Chrome offers the incognito browsing mode. Webpages that you open and files downloaded while you are incognito won't be logged in your browsing and download histories; all new cookies are deleted after you close the incognito window.

Seems like an interesting idea, but no real use that I can think of.

Problems so far:
- Seems a little sluggish on loading pages.
- Since ive been writing this message it has got confused a number of times and displayed what im writing incorrectly.

I will post more after i've had a little play.

Well it's beta as you said, so there's a lot more work to be done on it in the future, and even installation file size is ridiculously small (~450KB).

Knowing Google, chrome will probably be great success, however it's downsides may be reduced privacy and more ads. Google will automatically install updates (this may be bad), use content that you submit, and maybe serve ads directly through browser (not through some website) http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10030522-56.html

Chrome's processing of application is superb among all other browsers in the line of competition as per time being.

The mechanism used was multi-thread processing, and not inherent single-thread processing.

The magazine was a good read.

yes it is crossed with IE7, for instance I selected the options > underthehood > proxy settings and it gave me the same internet options as IE..... so I was like wow. But the awesome thing about the chrome I think is the indexing feature its really awesome and oh! don't forget about the simple desktop application feature I made one for my gmail, and placed it into my start up so it goes directly to my email account!! pretty sweet...last and not least the "inspect elements" option on the right click which could help users who do challenges on "hack3rz 4ruMz" siteZ ;-)

It has been faster at accomplishing alot of tasks for me, but there are still some compatibility problems, but as it is a beta version, those problem are to be expected.

My main thoughts are, I have enough problems creating websites which are properly viewable in Firefox, Safari & IE, if it takes off I hope it doesn't create more problems for us website developers.

There is Chromium, some kind of unofficial release, but it's not meant to be used as a regular browser.

I've used it and had issues with websites running flash. Sort of hangs the browser up every now and then. Otherwise an awesome browser.

Just found out today that the Mac version is sort of ready. They still have stuff to do with it but it's useable.
