Tell Me Where To Go!

Tell Me Where To Go!

Postby Parsons on Tue Nov 11, 2008 9:41 am

Hello,
I need your help please as I'm looking for guidance.

I am able to create simple web pages using Dreameaver. I also create simple web ads for houses (I’m a REALTOR). I use an html template I created for myself but others in my office can’t use it as they don’t know where to look to modify the html for their specific properties; address and city etc. I know it’s very easy; they just can’t do it, that’s why they are REALTORS!

Is there a way to modify the dynamic information within the html template by using form data? The modifications would be made on a local PC not on a web server running PHP as an example. And, what would the form be?

Is this something I could cobble together with off the shelf WYSIWYG type programs? If not, where would I look to hire someone to create a form and have the form data auto populate my html template?

Most REALTORS can at least cut and paste html most of the time ;-)

Peace to all!

You should have a look at simple online (and free) CMS systems. CushyCMS and SurrealCMS. If you're still stuck let me know.

Not sure if this helps.

Any WYSIWYG editor would be able to read your template if it is true html. There are many very good free ones.

If you did create a form, you'd have to store the data somewhere, then read it in and merge it with your template. Your gonna need more than HTML/CSS/Javascript to do that. PHP would work, but that's server side. Most ISP's let you develop in PHP with out additional costs to your static site. You could try it in Word but that will make a mess of your code. A real big mess!

What you need for your realtors is a CMS (Content Management System). The only one I've worked with (and it's free) is Joomla. It has to be installed on your server by someone with access rights. If you had that then you could be the CMS admin and users could go in and create articles, ads, listings, you would have control over the look and feel. The downside to these CMS systems is that they tend to be out-of-the-box ugly. And you don't really get full control over the looks.

The other thing is they tend to be hard to customize using additional HTML, Javascript or CSS.

You can use FREE CMS to create your site, and remodify the templates

dotnetnuke, joomla, drupal, mambo.

But you got to learn coding to make it work perfectly. Better to hire a freelancer to do this
