Hello there!

Postby Stenty on Sun Dec 21, 2008 1:18 am

hey,

i am obv new to this forum, thought i would post my 1st comment introducing myself to you guys! :)

Ok, my name is Piers, Im 20 and i always been interested in dipping my hand in photoshop etc, 1st downloaded cs2 when i was 16 or something and basically learnt how to use it myself :D which i am pretty proud of :D think i have mastered the basics and more or less an amateur at it (considering basics are such a wide range due to photoshop being so durable in all sorts of areas!)

now i am wanting to get into it more! so i thought best place to start is help from forum, get to know the "banta" ...i want to set up on my own, in a graphic design business. doing little things like advertisement, leaflets etc etc things for businesses. which i reckon my good points are at!

... so was thinking on getting myself a fantastic camera and upgrading to a apple mac or staying with a p.c.. (not sure yet tho :S ) and get stuck right in at starting up myself.. is there anything i need to know!, were are the places i need to be looking to start up a business on my own! who are the people to be talking to on here who know there stuff and can help me out!!??

any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks, Piers!

P.S - Stick with a PC and don't listen to any of the Mac fan boy opinions on this forum! Especially don't listen to Johnathan!

Does that mean he can't listen to me either?

Hey Stenty,
Welcome to DEVPPL. You are in the right place if you're interested in learning about Photoshop and such.

You seem pretty excited about getting into the graphic design world. Just remember the kind of competition you are up against, with post-secondary trained Graphic Designers out there and major firms etc. It's tough to start a solid business in the field of GD, but Freelancing is definitely an option.
I plan to get into Freelancing a bit more after I have built up my skills in the next few years and then begin working with other GDer's and Web Artists.

I wish you good luck in your endeavors and I hope to see you aroudn the forum, we're always glad to help.

I think you should just get a Mac, Tomi is just jealous because he can't afford one or something and he has to use some crappy PC.

ps. Welcome to DEVPPL :)

In the case of 4GB, a portion of the system memory over 3GB might not be available to the operating system

Mac is able to use all that's available to it without needing to upgrade to a 64bit Version :)

Well Apple only have to offer 1 version of their OS, no business, or home or ultimate or 32 or 64bits because it's awesome :)

Microsoft care about their customers enough to give choice, buisnesses need more than a standard home user so they can buy Vista Business or an enthusiast who is willing to spend more money can get more by getting Ultimate or standard home users can get Home or Home Premium depending on budget. Microsoft is more accomodating for the individual rather than making everyone have the same thing. :P
