Wierd colors on MacBook Pro, help needed

Postby jonassj on Mon Dec 29, 2008 11:33 pm

Hi,

What i nice forum you got here!

Im suffering from a problem that i could really need some help for:

After buying the new macbook pro i installed master collection CS3.

But the colors in Photoshop are very strange. As far as i know i havent changed any settings on my Macbook and i havent touched the settings in Photoshop.

Working with images in photoshop works great, but when i export it to .jpg it looks all pale and faded. Im suprised, because i had no such problem working with photoshop on my PC.

When i f.ex 'save for web' it looks like his:

I really hope someone here can help me out.

Happy newyear to you all!

This is a problem with you PS and desktop palettes - they probably don't match. I have never used a Mac, though, so I can't really help you much.

I think I know what the problem is, though not necessarily how to correct it ( at least not without spending some money)

Macs and PC's use different gamma values. This affects how the computer defines "neutral gray", and has the effect of changing your white balance. I'm guessing that your Mac is running the software with PC settings.

Being something of a photographer, I became interested in getting spot-on color from computer to printer. One step in that cycle was to invest in a colorimeter. This is an optical hardware device that attaches to a USB port and work in conjunction with software to measure the quality of color being emitted by your screen, and compare it with known color definitions. The final step adjusts the screen's output to match the correct color definitions.

Once done, you not only have continuity of color between applications, but confidence in the fact that the colors being displayed are technically correct.

Several companies out there produce colorimeters. Gretag-Macbeth's EyeOne Display series, and Colorvision's Spyder series are two that spring right to mind.

I use a 17" MacBook Pro, and Colorvision's Spyder2 Pro, and have been completely happy with the results.

Hope that gives you some insight,

- Joe U.

Hi Joe,

Thanks alot for your reply.

It just seems strange that i should have to calibrate my macbook since its only a month old. And it seemes even stranger that i seem to be the only one suffering from this problem?

Im afraid that i have made some wrong settings somewhere playing with the computer, but i cant figure out what.

Anyway, thanks alot for your reply, and happy newyear!
