Merge to HDR Problem

Postby Huma on Mon Jan 05, 2009 2:05 pm

I use HDR a lot. I have Photoshop CS3 installed on my IMac. But now, anytime I do a Merge to HDR involving images from my Nikon D80 it just aborts without finishing the process. This failure happens even on images that I have used in the past that worked with the HDR command.

However, I have some bracketed shots from other cameras that work just fine.

I reinstalled the software but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, I cannot offer any advice, but do have a similar but different problem with CS3.

Using PhotoMerge with three images, selected from Bridge. The process will start and after a few minutes, a message will appear telling that the images cannot be aligned. I know this to be rubbish because they were shot on a tripod with plenty of overlap.

Close PS and Bridge, start them again, and the process works flawlessly; until I want to merge the second set of images and the same thing happens.

Is it a program glitch?

Rex,

Interesting.

How about I do all of your PhotoMerge jobs and you do all my HDR?

Anyway, I found a work-around solution to my problem. If I take an image from another camera and change its canvas size and then make the appropriate number of copies to match my series of images, I can add my images as a layer. Photoshop naturally reads this file as an image created from the other camera. I then delete the background layer. Photoshop then processes the HDR perfectly.

It is a weird glitch that it won't complete the process if it thinks the image is from my Nikon D80. Although it used to work just fine with my D80 images. I don't know what has happened. But I can live with these few extra steps.

Maybe you guys can try this. I posted this in another thread, but it might work here too. If your PS is being glitchy try clearing your preferences. Here are a couple ways of doing that:

1. Hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Mac: Command+Option+Shift) while starting Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences file.

2. You can also simply search your hard drive for a *.psp file and delete it. It will be called something along the lines of "Adobe Photoshop X Prefs.psp".

Under Win 2k/XP the preference file will be found at:
%windir%\Documents and Settings\~username\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\[version #]\Adobe Photoshop [version #] Settings

[NOTE: You need to set Window's Explorer Options to "View Hidden Files and Folders" to display the Preference file]

This is something I found on the Adobe forums awhile back when my Photoshop was acting weird.

Interesting idea.

But if that clears my Preferences, then surely I will have to reset them all again.

Yeah, it stinks :( but if it fixes something that you use a lot then I think it's worth it.

I have a similar problem "maybe" I scan a number of scans as jpeg, tiff, bmp (different scans) and have files (8-9) and use photomerge to make a full picture, trouble is when it is finished, putting together, (each scan is 8.5 x 11) 300 or 350 in size, I end up with a finished photo of 5957 X 4667 and want to print it.... I have an epson 4000 for 17 inch roll paper. I end up with a picture 05 in. by 04 inch and very pixelated. What do I have wrong?

thanks and have a good day
