Windows 7 Beta

Postby Johnathan on Sat Jan 10, 2009 11:50 pm

The new Windows 7 Beta is now available for download. Was available yesterday (09/10/2009) but they had some problems with their validation servers but it went up again earlier tonight and is available for anyone to download.

Only 2.5 million keys available so I'd hurry if I were you.

Also download with IE, download button wont work in anything else, well not FF3 anyways.

Download from here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx

So enjoy and let us know how you get on!

I have a new PC that I'm basically only using for internet TV. I think I'll give it a try if I can find the time to get around to it.

Finally got it, and after a lot of fiderling I must admit its growing on me. Its possible to change the taskbar that IMO is chunky and ugly into an upgraded version of the vista taskbar.

The real benefit is for people who had problems with vista, I myself never had a problem with vista so it just seems like a VERY pretty version of it.

I had to use IE, but I downloaded the beta overnight. Hoping to get it up and running sometime this weekend!

A hint to anyone who doesn't reall like the new task bar.
Right click taskbar, properties, tick "use small icons" and change "taskbar buttons" to combine when taskbar is full.

just an FYI...

Windows 7 beta users get AutoUpdate patch, fixes MP3 corruption issue

Redmond (WA) - An MP3 corruption issue in Windows 7 beta Build 7000 that was downloaded by countless millions last week has now been distributed via Automatic Update. The patch, KB961367, was available soon after the beta release but required a manual Windows Update to receive.

The MP3 corruption issue would permanently delete several seconds at the beginning of each MP3 file, replacing them with silence, if the MP3 meta data was edited and was 16KB or larger (which is very large and atypical). As a result, many users were not affected by this issue, though Microsoft was quick to release the patch.

Microsoft addressed other issues with the patch, including Protected tuning source issues, MHEG (iTV), series recording may fail if Vista upgrade and additional Windows Medial Player issues.

Vista is the worst OS that MS has launched so far. I personally like windows 7 a lot. It is much faster and better than Vista. It still has some minor issues, but on the whole, I think it is one of the best operating systems Microsoft has ever produced.
