having a newbie problem for sure

Postby digital Mikeon on Sat Jan 31, 2009 4:11 pm

Hi;

I am trying to make some greeting cards in PS3 and have a problem that I cannot seem to overcome. I downloaded a greeting card template from Red River Paper along with the card stock samples that I purchased. Now to my stupid problem. I open an image in RAW and edit it and crop it to 5x7 then open it in Photoshop. I use image size to set the image to be 5"x 7" in size. I open the card template which needs a 5x7" photo for the front. When I drag my image which everything tells me is 5x7 onto my template the image is about 20 times or more too large for the space on the template? I am really new to this whole photoshop/digital photography thing and I know that it is me that is doing something wrong but for the life of me I cannot figure this out. Any help from one of you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi digital Mikeon,

Your template and your card are probably different resolutions (ppi). Check the Image Size window (Image>Image Size) to see what the ppi setting is for both images. In Photoshop, the ppi setting effects print size and the inches on your ruler. If you're going by inches, both rulers need to be the same :-)

Thank you so much for your time and help. That was my problen and I have ironed it out to my satisfaction. Your advice came while I still had nine maybe eleven hairs left in my head. This site is awesome and I am enjoying every minute that I spend on it and am learning something new with every visit.
